Randy AuCoin is a seasoned clinical executive with broad experience in all aspects of medical device operations. He started his career developing software in a medical device start-up and quickly realized his love for early stage companies and medical devices. Randy’s career is reflective of his passion for growing early stage medical device companies and spans a broad range of operational and managerial roles. Prior to Exact Imaging, he was a key executive in three other early stage ventures, helping to grow the companies’ valuation resulting in four liquidity events including one company which was sold twice based on the fundamental technology which Randy helped to develop and commercialize.
Randy is President and CEO of Exact Imaging, responsible for the company’s strategic direction, key operations and overseeing the development and global commercialization of its ExactVu™ micro-ultrasound platform. He joined Imagistx (now Exact Imaging) in 2011 as COO. In 2013 he became President, successfully restructuring the company into a Canadian entity, driving the Company’s strategy and fundraising, and building the Company’s management and operational teams. He also architected and led the company’s multi-site clinical trial.
Prior to Exact Imaging from 2003 – 2011, Randy was Vice President, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at VisualSonics (sold in 2010 to Sonosite (SONO: NASDAQ)) and was responsible for the development and execution of all quality assurance and control efforts as well as directing all regulatory affairs and clinical programs. He directed VisualSonics’ achievement of ISO 9001 quality certification within its first 2 years of operation. He also led all clinical investigations including the original efforts into successfully validating the Imagistx’s opportunity leveraging the VisualSonics technology for prostate imaging. He also contributed to the quality system that successfully delivered over 1,500 VisualSonics high resolution-ultrasound systems with an extremely high-level of quality and customer satisfaction.
From 2000 to 2003, Randy was Manager of Engineering, QA & RA at Dicomit DICOM Information Technologies (acquired by Cedara software). From 1998 to 2000, Randy was a Y2K consultant with Ontario Hydro. Previously, from 1990 to 1998, Randy worked in cardiology as a principal engineer with Biomedical Instrumentation Inc. (acquired by American Home Products and re-branded as Quinton Electrophysiology Corporation). Quinton Electrophysiology was eventually acquired by Pruka Engineering.
Steven Chackowicz is an experienced biotechnology executive and serial entrepreneur in early stage biotechnology companies. Joining Exact Imaging in January 2015, Steve is Executive Vice President responsible for global sales and commercialization, business development and a key contributor to corporate development.
Previously from 2011, Steve was the Executive Vice President of Aspect Imaging, the world’s leader in high-performance compact MRI imaging systems for pre-clinical, clinical and advanced industrial applications where he was responsible for global commercialization.
In 2003 he joined VisualSonics, and served as Vice President, Sales and Business Development. Steve designed and developed the sales organization, infrastructure and strategy at VisualSonics, a developer and manufacturer of high-frequency ultrasound systems designed for pre-clinical research. He was responsible for managing and growing the global sales and applications support efforts for the company and spearheaded key business critical initiatives enabling effective commercial execution resulting in the sale of the company in 2010 to Sonosite (SONO: NASDAQ). Steve continued to be responsible for alliances and technology identification and commercialization, leveraging VisualSonics’ competitive advantage in the pre-clinical imaging marketplace. Steve also has extensive experience of markets outside of North America and continued to manage distribution channels in Asia, Europe and South America.
Prior to joining VisualSonics, Steve was a Founder and Vice President of Visible Genetics [NASDAQ: VGEN], a manufacturer of high throughput DNA sequencing systems for the research and diagnostic marketplace. From 1993 to 2001, he built the sales and marketing organization of the company, and planned and executed successful sales strategies in North America and Europe allowing the company to complete an IPO in 1996 and eventual sale in 2002 to Bayer Corporation.
From 1989 to 1993, Steve was North American Eastern Regional Sales Manager at Pharmacia Biotech (now GE Healthcare), a global provider of life science research tools, biotechnology equipment and molecular biology reagents. While at Pharmacia, Steve tripled regional sales in what had been a low-growth market.
Steve earned his Bachelor of Science, Honours in biochemistry with a minor in philosophy at the University of Toronto.
Rob Sandler is a seasoned marketing executive specializing in getting early stage technology organizations on an accelerated path to commercial traction and global scale. Rob's experience with tech start-ups includes all facets of marketing, product management, sales and channel programs with a strong track record of success including contributing to multiple liquidity events. He has a strong competency in successfully launching and marketing disruptive technologies in the life science, molecular diagnostics, imaging and in global B2B markets.
Joining Exact Imaging in January 2015, Rob is Senior Vice President, Marketing responsible for developing and executing the company’s global marketing, communications and product management efforts.
Previously from 2011, Rob was the Senior Vice President, Marketing of Aspect Imaging, the world’s leader in high-performance compact MRI imaging systems for pre-clinical, clinical and advanced industrial applications where he was responsible for global marketing. During his tenure, Rob re-branded the company, developed a complete commercial infrastructure to support lead generation and global sales and distribution network, and supported key sales in luminary sites in all segments. Previously, Rob was SVP, Marketing at VisEn Medical (fluorescence-based imaging) responsible for all marketing, product and application-development efforts. Rob re-organized the product portfolio and product line and successfully expended the company’s scientific applications, its line of imaging-based fluorescent agents and expanded the company’s key instrumentation models. Due to its strong product portfolio and breadth of applications, the company was acquired by Perkin Elmer (NASDAQ: PKI).
From 2003 – 2008, Rob was VisualSonics’ Vice President, Marketing, responsible for developing the brand and conceiving and supporting complete marketing infrastructure supporting the launch and eventual sale of 850+ instruments worldwide. Product management, communications and PR and application development were also under Rob’s responsibility.
Previously, Rob was VP and co-Managing Director of Grey Interactive Canada, one of Canada’s largest interactive agencies and also Marketing Manager of Visible Genetics [NASDAQ: VGEN], a manufacturer of high throughput DNA sequencing systems for the research and diagnostic marketplace. He built the marketing organization and global marketing programs allowing the company to complete an IPO in 1996 and successful commercial launches into the HIV and HLA/tissue-typing marketplaces.
Rob has an MBA from Ivey Business School/UWO and a BA from McGill University and is actively involved in pro bono activities.
Jerrold is a seasoned engineering executive with over 15 years of experience in engineering product development, project management, team leadership, and system architecture in the medical imaging and ultrasound industries. His expertise is in leading dynamic, innovative teams focused on user-centric design and a lean enterprise methodology.
Joining Exact Imaging in 2013, Jerrold is Vice President, Engineering responsible for developing and executing all the company’s technology development efforts. This includes responsibility for all technical application development and product realization of the 29 MHz platform. Jerrold is also responsible for executing the on-going technical product roadmap including all forward-looking technical developments.
Prior to Exact imaging, Jerrold was most recently at FUJIFILM VisualSonics, where he was the Segment Leader. During his 11-year tenure at VisualSonics, he led cross-functional hardware/software teams through seven major product development projects in high-frequency ultrasound ultrasound from technical conception through to successful commercial product.
Frank is a results-oriented professional with more than 20 years of international experience in medical device and healthcare services including field sales representation, sales and marketing management, business development, strategic planning, operational transformation and senior business management. Frank is Vice President, European Operations and Sales for Exact Imaging and is responsible for the sales of Exact Imaging products and services, general management and operations of the European business including the development of new business in Europe.For 16 years starting in 2000, Frank held a variety of progressively senior executive and managerial roles at Intuitive Surgical, a $ 2.4 billion global leader in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery. Most recently, he was Director, Indirect Markets, leading the EMEIA distribution region and achieving total revenue of $120,000,000 in 21 countries. Previously, Frank held a variety of executive commercial positions at Intuitive including International Sales Director and Director, Direct and Indirect Markets in a variety of international markets. Prior to Intuitive, Frank held sales positions at Autosuture (Medtronic) and Yamanouchi Pharma (Astellas). Across his career, Frank has received a multitude of sales and management achievement awards.
Frank has his Masters in Physical Education, HILO and his Masters in Motorical Revalidation and Physiotherapy, MOREKI from the University Gent in Belgium. He is an avid skier, hockey and soccer player and is actively involved in leadership positions in a variety of local sports and community organizations.
Travis Phung is an accounting and finance professional specializing in managing the financial and administrative operations of early-stage companies. Travis is Director, Finance and Administration for Exact Imaging, responsible for all elements of the Company’s finances and administration of its global operations.
Prior to Exact Imaging from 2011 - 2015, Travis was a Senior Accountant at KPMG LLP where he obtained his Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA) designation and was recognized as among the top senior performers by the firm. At KPMG, Travis was a part of the firm’s fast-growing Enterprise practice that offered assurance and consulting services to small and medium-sized private businesses. In his role, Travis managed a team of associates and led several engagements focusing on assurance and financial analysis of operations and financial position in a variety of industries. Through his experience at KPMG, Travis has become well-versed in the financial reporting process and has produced a number of stand-alone, consolidated and combined financial reporting packages in both the ASPE and IFRS framework.
From 2007-2011, Travis obtained his Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies with a specialization in Finance and Accounting at Western University where he graduated at the top of his class and was awarded the UWO BACS Diamond Jubilee Alumni Gold Medal. Balancing academics with extra-curricular activities during his undergraduate studies, Travis also served as the Vice-President of Operations for The Shoe Connection, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to provide footwear to the under-privileged around the world.
Travis continues to be involved in pro-bono activities as he currently serves as an unofficial financial advisor to an early-stage technology company where he offers his financial modelling expertise to generate pro-forma statements for the purposes of investor interest and start-up accelerator applications.
