Exact Imaging receives $980,000.00 CDN repayable contribution from the Federal Economic Development Agency (FedDev Ontario)

We’re well into 2015 and these first five months have been busy at the Federal Economic Agency for Southern Ontario, or FedDev Ontario! From January 1, 2015 to May 29, 2015, we have announced nearly $162 million for 45 new projects, ranging from software platforms and medical innovations to aerospace and cuttingedge industrial manufacturing. You can read about some of these projects in this newsletter and all of them are featured in the Media Room on FedDev Ontario’s website.

The recent federal budget tabled by our Government, Economic Action Plan 2015 (EAP 2015), is great news for the economy and great news for Canadians. This newsletter will provide you with information on its strong positive impact, as well as some of our exciting new initiatives.

Over the last few months, I have had the opportunity to travel across southern Ontario and meet with several of you at roundtable discussions focused on the issues that matter most to entrepreneurs, investors, manufacturers, business owners, not-for-profit organizations and academic institutions. These conversations have been frank, direct, challenging and inspiring. You’ve informed us of what FedDev Ontario has done well, and where we still have room to improve. A summary of some of the topics discussed at our roundtable sessions is included in this newsletter. Your ideas and input are valuable, and together we will continue to make the southern Ontario economy the best it can be.

Our Government, and our Prime Minister, are dedicated to making communities across Canada the best they can be. We have demonstrated this with the launch of the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150). Through FedDev Ontario, we will be delivering $44.4 million to southern Ontario through this initiative for the rehabilitation, renovation and expansion of existing community facilities. I am eager to see this program in action, and I look forward to celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary and the completion of these projects with communities across southern Ontario.

Finally, there has been a lot of conversation around the topic of advanced manufacturing and its place in the Ontario economy. I can tell you that some exciting and innovative projects are taking shape in this field. With FedDev Ontario delivering $200 million for the Advanced Manufacturing Fund (AMF) in Ontario, we’re getting a taste of what new developments are on the horizon. I am pleased with the recent AMF announcements made by FedDev Ontario, beginning on March 27: Fibracast, a Hamilton-based manufacturer of advanced membrane technologies used in water treatment, is receiving a $10-million repayable contribution under this program. Subsequently, we announced $15.2 million in AMF funding for Baylis Medical to enhance the production of their first-in-Canada medical devices.

Follow us on Twitter @FedDevOntario or sign up to receive our news releases and you’ll be among the first to find out how FedDev Ontario is supporting this, and other growing sectors.

Wishing all of you a wonderful, warm spring and summer.

The Honourable Gary Goodyear
Minister of State
Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario
