Lead Software Architect

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Manage all activities of the software development group
  • Lead design, tool selection, implementation, and maintenance of the software
  • Mentor team members, set goals, evaluate performance
  • Schedule and balance team activities to meet deadlines for deliverables
  • Participate in project planning, estimation and issue evaluation
  • Prepare updates to system specifications, designs, test descriptions, and related documentation
  • Advise of any ideas for the improvement of system reliability, performance and functionality provided by system software
  • Train software group members on software development, procedures, working instructions and ensure development procedures and working instructions are followed
  • Develop and manage effective working relationships with other departments, groups and personnel with whom work must be coordinated or interfaced
  • Report immediately any variances from the target completion date of the tasks, or that the tasks cannot be completed
  • Participate in the preparation and the review of product, engineering, and management plans and reports as required
  • Continue to develop personal skills and expertise towards a high level of technical expertise in areas of software development, signal and image processing, and biomedical engineering
  • Work in a safe manner so as not to endanger individual health and safety, or the health and safety of others
  • Take all reasonable precautions to protect corporate assets, including proprietary and confidential information
  • Comply with all legal requirements, all corporate policies and procedures, and with generally accepted business and ethical practices
  • Other duties as assigned by Management

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

Education:

  • A post-secondary degree/diploma in computer science, engineering or a related discipline
  • Continuous learning in areas of development software

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in software development, preferably in medical devices and/or medical imaging
  • Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring staff an asset
  • Experience working with various programming codes & processes
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to assess complex programming applications
  • Experience with C/C++ and software development on Microsoft platforms (Win32 API, MFC)
  • Good knowledge of the medical device development process ISO 13485
  • Experience developing multithreaded software applications
  • Experience with real time environments
  • Experience with image and signal processing
  • Experience with medical software and knowledge in imaging applications is an asset
  • Proficiency in using general office productivity software (Microsoft Office, etc) for communication and documentation purposes
